Disney on Ice

Elias' school doesn't go back until January 8, so we took the extra time to do some special fun things in Manila! We were excited to find that Disney on Ice was coming to Manila, so we got tickets, and we LOVED it! We've never seen Disney on Ice in the States before, but we sure did love it here!

The show was called Everyone's Story, and so it was a broad summary of many of the most popular Disney stories. The premise was that Goofy and Donald were wanting to make a movie, but they couldn't think up a plot. So Mickey and Minnie tried to help them come up with ideas by summarizing other good stories they knew...

Elias' favorite section was Finding Dory!

We loved the turtles! I have no idea how they got that giant Crush to move so smoothly on the ice...

The Frozen section was also hugely popular!

The Mulan section was beautiful:
And I loved the Lion King choreography, too!

For the finale, everyone in the show came out to wave goodbye - there was a huge cast!


As a souvenir, Elias spent the last of his Christmas money on a Baby Dory and Destiny from Finding Dory... Thanks to Nana and Granddad for the Christmas money!

Donsol, Part 1: The Resort

We took a trip to Donsol, which is on the same Philippine island that we live on, but it is on the south end, so quite far. It would be a 12+ hour car ride, so we flew instead! We were traveling with a tour group of 5 other American families. We flew into the city of Legazpi, which has been in the international news recently because there is an active volcano there, called Mayon Volcano! It was amazing to fly in right over the volcano, which is spewing smoke and occasionally spurting fire but not actually erupting lava. The airport is RIGHT next to the volcano. Traveling Across the World, Part 2

Read Part 1 here. In the Tokyo hotel, we slept as well as you can with a 14-hour time change. Our bodies had no idea where we were and what we were doing! But we woke up ready to continue our journey the next day. Our flight to Manila didn't leave until 5:30pm, so we had all day to relax and try to get our heads on straight. The airport is quite far out from Tokyo, so we didn't want to venture into the city. We just explored the area around the hotel. There was a pretty rock garden:  And a bamboo forest! Just around the corner was a Japanese shrine to a local dance art form, and so Justin went to check that out. That's our hotel in the back right of the picture, so it was quite close. Although our flight didn't leave until 5:30pm, we still had to check out of our hotel at noon. We're Going to Manila!

We have received our first assignment, where we will be headed in November. We're going to Manila, Philippines!! This picture was taken at the ceremony where each person's destination was announced and they were given the flag of the nation they were headed to. We are DELIGHTED to be going to the Philippines! None of us have ever been to East Asia or the Pacific at all, and we can't wait for this new adventure in our life's journey!
