The Mind Museum

Elias had two days off school for a Filipino holiday called Bonifacio Day, so on Friday, he and I went to a nearby science museum called The Mind Museum. It's less than a half mile walk from our house, and we've been waiting for the opportunity to check it out... It was great!!

Cheesing with a robot outside:
In the Electricity Room, Elias and another boy practiced making this ring leap back and forth using electricity:

We also learned how static electricity can make our hair stand up!
Since Elias' hair wasn't long enough to see the effect, he wanted me to do it, and he took this photo!
Laser sensors made this staircase act like a piano, so that the keys played whenever you stepped on them:
 The Space Room was beautiful!
Elias planning a Philippine flag on the moon! :)
 In the lunar module:
The Space Room had a cool tunnel that made it feel like you were walking through a black hole... It made us so dizzy! Elias wanted to do it over and over again.
The Life Room had a real skeleton of a tyrannosaurus rex! I didn't plan it, but this picture looks like it's grabbing Elias' head...
The T. Rex's name was Stan...
An exhibit on whale sharks made Elias so excited! We're planning a trip to go swimming with the local whale sharks in February!
They had a life-sized whale shark model, and Elias got in his mouth! If you zoom in on the picture, you'll see Elias screaming, "Aaaaah, it's eating me!" and the little Filipino girl next to him looking at him like he's a lunatic. Yep, that's about right.
The angler fish had sharp teeth!
Learning how the power of air can make balls float:
 Learning how a toilet works!
Outside they had a cool playground that was based on concepts from math and music:

Then there was also a traveling exhibit that's currently in Manila called Dinosaurs Around the World! They had life-sized robots of a spinosaurus and a tyrannosaurus rex! Wooooow!

 Elias dug for fossils:
And had fun with hatching baby dinosaurs:

It was a special day, and I love that we have something like that so close to our apartment!!
