Arlington County Fair

Elias and I decided to enjoy the Arlington County Fair! We spent the day there and had a ball riding rides. We rode the Scrambler:

 We rode the coolest hang-gliding ride... I've never seen one like this before!
 Elias did the Monkey Maze:
 We rode the swings - one of my all-time favorites!
 Some firefighters let Elias put out a fire with the fire hose! Cool!
Elias met a giant inflatable sheriff... There was a person inside there! As you can see from his posture, Elias was not super comfortable next to this guy!
It was a super fun day!

Fun Farm

About an hour south of Manila is a neat little getaway called Fun Farm. We took a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed escaping Manila and having some active fun out in nature! There was a great climbing playground where kids could expend a lot of energy! The playground had this old farm truck the kids could play on. It also had an orange Kubota tractor, just like the one Granddad used to have! There was a great petting zoo with sheep, goats, pigs, and they had carrots that we could feed to the guinea pigs and rabbits! One little hutch had a mommy rabbit with tiny newborn bunnies! More climbing for my little monkey Elias got to ride a horse. And we all rode in a cart pulled by a carabao (like a water buffalo) named Chocolate (spelled Tsokolate in Filipino, but the pronunciation is similar)! There was also boat riding. And fishing! Theodore Roosevelt Island

Theodore Roosevelt Island seems to be one of the lesser-known attractions from the DC area, but it was really neat! It's only about 1.25 miles from our apartment, so we decided to hike there on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed hiking the beautiful island as well! On the bridge across from Virginia:  The center of the island has a beautiful monument to Theodore Roosevelt: The monument contains several of Roosevelt's most famous quotes: The island itself is also quite large and great for hikes. We're glad we found this hidden gem!

Consular Ball

The Consular Ball is an annual event hosted by the Consular Corps of the Philippines. All Embassy personnel are invited to attend, but since Justin works in the Consular section, it was even more appropriate that he should go and mingle with consular representatives of many nations here in the Philippines. Our new friends Walter and Eugenia helped us with finding formal wear, hair and makeup stylist, and they even gave us a ride to the event! We had formal wear made by a seamstress here in Manila, and we LOVED the job she and her workers did in making exactly what we wanted! (Elias didn't even recognize me with the hair and makeup!) We enjoyed the delicious meal! Below are the main course and dessert course. I forgot to take pictures of the salad and soup courses! Then there was a fun evening of dancing with friends! We really enjoyed our first ball!!
